Draft Rumor Mill

NFL Draft

The Washington Redskins are rumored to definitely be looking for a tight end. If they do not go the route of Kellen Winslow Jr. in round 1 it is apparent that they would like to take a tight end no later than round 4. The Redskins seem to have cooled on Kevin Jones and Steven Jackson…the rumors about Kellen Winslow Jr. are starting to look more and more factual. With Coach running the show now getting a tight end seems essential. The Redskins would consider their draft perfect if….they got Winslow in round 1 and Randy Starks slips to them in round 2. They have spent a lot of time looking at interior lineman for middle round picks…. Jake Grove has their eye at center.

Sources within the Eagles and those close to the team claim that the NFC runner-ups are busy looking for players for the defensive front seven. Many say that by getting a prospect that can bring the heat on the quarterback around the edge it could free up the middle for players like Corey Simon and Darwin Walker. Also, more pressure means that the secondary will not be as vulnerable. These comments could spell the end for Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent or both in an Eagles uniform. Jevon Kearse is expected to get a hard look from the Eagles in the offseason.

It might be too early to speculate about something like this but it seems like the Browns interest in Roethlisberger is even hotter than first reported. So hot in fact that the Browns are toying with the idea or may have already talked to the Raiders about moving into the #2 spot in the first round. If this happens expect the Raiders to try and land Shawn Andrews at tackle and the deal from Cleveland would most likely involve a player like Tim Couch or Quincy Morgan.

Miami has made their desire for Philip Rivers known and it looks more and more like he will be the pick by the team at #20.

Ben Roethlisberger showed up at the Senior Bowl making the rounds with Leigh Steinberg. 3 teams showed immense interest in Roethlisberger…San Diego…Cleveland….Dallas. The San Diego coaches (about 4 in all) talked to Roethlisberger for about 45 minutes. I still beleive the Chargers will have Brees on their roster and would rather trade their pick. If they stay put they think taking a quarterback will be the right thing to do and Brees would start the year while the youngster sat on the bench. Also if the Chargers trade the pick they would want to do it with a team that would rather select Larry Fitzgerald first. This is because Oakland wants Fitzgerald and San Diego would like to not face this guy twice a year (he would be a division opponent). So they will take the best deal at #1 but if it is close they would rather do it with a team that wants Fitzgerald.
