Spriggs Added to O-Line

By Jake Russell | August 17th, 2004

On Monday, the Redskins announced the signing of offensive lineman Marcus Spriggs. The 7-year veteran worked out for team officials last Thursday.

Spriggs, who is 6-3, weighs 310 pounds, and can play both guard and tackle brings versatility and size to an offensive line weakened by the loss of starting right tackle Jon Jansen.

The Buffalo Bills drafted Marcus in the 6th round of the 1997 NFL Draft. He left Buffalo in 2001 to join the Miami Dolphins, where he spent the next two seasons. Spriggs spent last year with the Green Bay Packers, where he only played two games on the offensive line.

Offensive tackle Brandon Winey was released to create a roster spot for Spriggs.

The release of Winey was a bit surprising given his solid performance while filling in for Chris Samuels at the end of the 2003 season.

Spriggs participated in practice Monday and is going to wear Winey’s #68.
