Lemar Marshall signed a 3-year contract to remain with the Redskins on Friday, and so begins the 2005 free agent bonanza.
Terms of Marshall’s deal are yet to be released but it is believed to be worth about $2 million. After a solid season that saw him post 82 tackles and 1.5 sacks in relief of injured weakside linebacker Lavar Arrington, the contract is also said to include escalator clauses to account for if Marshall again played a starter’s role.
Gregg Williams 4-6 defense has a lot of looks and a lot of formations, and whether starting or coming in for special situations, Marshall can be a valuable tool. Depth and special teams are definitely also a consideration with the signing.
With 18 free agents left to look after by March 2nd, it is a welcome beginning for Redskin fans.
