Redskins First OTA

News Washington Commanders

Redskins.com began their exclusive video footage of the Organized Team Activities Monday. The official website is the only place to find these feeds, as they are the only cameras present. Coverage started with four different video feeds, an introduction, the warm-ups, quarterbacks and the offensive line. The Redskins have 14 different OTA’s scheduled and spread out over the next 5 weeks. Redskins.com will have video excerpts of them all.

Introduction: Larry Michael taking over some footage of the Redskins preparing to start their first 2005 OTA. Joe Gibbs runs on to the field and kicks off the ‘official’ beginning of team activities.

Warm-Ups: Larry Michael talks about the OTA’s being a good pre-cursor to the start of the season as the Redskins are seen stretching and getting ready to practice. Michael remarks that there’s no ‘catching up’ to do this year as Gibbs’ system has been in place now for 15 months. He also notes the ‘serious tone’ at Redskin Park, even during these warm-ups.

Quarterbacks: Before the video segment cuts to the quarterbacks playing catch, Washington fans get their first glimpse of Santana Moss in a Redskins uniform. He’s seen talking to Darnerien McCants who towers over him. They also show Clinton Portis playing catch. Then the video cuts to the four quarterbacks who will be at camp just throwing the ball around. Patrick Ramsey is in the foreground throwing the ball to Mark Brunell. Beside Ramsey in the foreground is first-round draft pick Jason Campbell. Campbell is a big kid. He’s throwing to Bryson Spinner, the Richmond grad signed as an undrafted FA last week by the Redskins.

Offensive Line: Obviously at THN, we appreciate any offensive line news or coverage, so to have them included in the video package was excellent. Though there isn’t much to see as the guys line-up and practice their starts, it’s just great to see the big boys back at it. The video shows the linemen taking off in threes, and there were three sets of three: Chris Samuels, Derrick Dockery and Casey Rabach; Jon Jansen, Randy Thomas, and Lennie Friedman; and Jon Alston, Ray Brown and Cory Raymer.

You can find links to the video feeds on the first page of Redskins.com.

Several Redskins were not in attendance at the workouts; Sean Taylor (voluntary), Rod Gardner (voluntary), Lavar Arrington (rehab), Brandon Noble (rehab), Mike Barrow (rehab), Tom Tupa (personal), and undrafted rookies Rich Parson and Zak Keasey (still completing college courses). Gibbs said that while attendance was excellent and that he understands that the OTA’s are voluntary, “when everybody else is here, it is disappointing.”
