Arizona Cardinals

2005 Results: 5-11, 3rd in NFC – West
2006 Projected Cap Status: $28.9 million under

2005 Season Recap:

With Coach Denny Green coming in and the level of talent on the team, the Cardinals came into 2005 with some confidence, especially given the lack of strength in their division. Unfortunately, things did not work out. Coach Green’s team showed flashes, but the play of their offensive line really prevented them from gaining any type of consistency on the offense. Their defense was terrible against the run, and when you cannot score points and you cannot stop the run, you are in for a long season.

Team Needs:

1. Offensive Line: No matter how many playmakers this team has at the wide receiver position, without good protection they are useless. Not too many quarterbacks throw touchdowns from the seat of their pants.

2. Quarterback: Speaking of quarterbacks, the Cardinals have an aging one. With Josh McCown leaving town, Denny Green better start looking for a replacement, either through the draft or free agency.

3. Middle Linebacker: The Cardinals need to do something to improve their 28th ranked rushing defense, and that something should start in the middle of their linebacking corps. Orlando Huff has not displayed the ability to read the run or make tackles when he does happen to be in the right place at the right time.
