Up next in the team needs features for the draft section are the Washington Redskins. The Redskins don’t have a first round selection in 2006 because of the draft day deal for Jason Campbell last year.

2005 Season Recap:
Starting quarterback Patrick Ramsey suffers a neck injury in the second quarter and is replaced by Mark Brunell, who leads the Redskins to an Opening Day victory that earns him the starting job for the rest of the season. After a promising 3-0 start, Brunell and the Redskins went 2 and 6 over the next eight games. With 5 NFC opponents left on the schedule and an outside shot at a return to the playoffs, the team took to heart the Die-hard fan’s motto of “five in a row or we don’t go”. Each game in the last 5 weeks had the same outcome, but each was very different. In week 14, it was special teams and Antonio Brown’s 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown when the offense failed to capitalize on numerous turnovers from the Cardinals. Week 16 Ramsey took over for an injured Mark Brunell in the third quarter and threw a 72-yard touchdown pass to Santana Moss against the G-men. Oh and how could we forget week 15, when we excelled in all phases of the game in the rematch against that team in Texas. The Redskins then went 1-1 in the Post-season to close out the year.
Team Needs:
1. Linebacker: Warrick Holdman re-signed but turns 31 this year and at best was a stopgap (23 tackles, one fumble recovery in 14 games) last year. Off-season addition Andre Carter will see more reps at defensive end than at linebacker. Washington can draft the best LB (ILB or OLB) available in the draft because Gregg Williams still has the option to move MLB Lemar Marshall back to the weak side where he was the starter in 2004.
2. Defensive lineman: The Redskins need a defensive tackle that has the size and athletic ability to take over as the starter opposite Griffin. That would allow Joe Saleve’a to move into a reserve role where he would provide quality depth. With Brandon Noble gone there needs to be another option. Andre Carter will improve the pass rush off the edge. Phillip Daniels and Renaldo Wynn won’t be every-down players much longer and Demetric Evans may never be.
3. Guard: Randy Thomas is one of the best guards in the NFL, but he is coming off a season-ending knee injury. He should be ready for the start of the season. Derrick Dockery isn’t fundamentally sound but plays with a mean streak. Signing Pucillo improves depth, but won’t push Dockery for playing time.
4. Kicking Game: Aging place kicker John Hall and young punter Derrick Frost aren’t locks for roster spots if competition is brought in to challenge them for the jobs. Hall has missed more than a dozen games since 2004 and having Moss run an inside slant would have been more productive the some of the efforts that Frost turned in in 2005
