After the first three weeks that this Hognosticator has had (nine games out after three weeks), it may be wise to just check the picks and select the opposite. Last week was particularly brutal. Never in the two year history of Hognosticating and years before in other pools have the Hognosticator’s picks been below .500. Here’s hoping it’s just a slow start similar to our Redskin offense. However, after attending the Texan game and witnessing that dominating performance and Gibbs on the sideline for the first time in person, the weekly picks just didn’t seem as important. What a great birthday gift, thanks babe!
Arizona at Atlanta Pick – Falcons
Cardinals have lost three in a row against the Falcons and three in a row in Atlanta. Don’t expect things to change. The Falcons ought to be focused after getting spanked Monday night.
San Diego at Baltimore Pick – Chargers
Neither of these teams has played a decent opponent this season. The rested Chargers, with two weeks to prepare, will have enough offensively to out score the Raisins.
Minnesota at Buffalo Pick – Vikings
Not sure how the Bills can be favored in this one. The Vikes could easily be 3-0 – while the Bills are 1-2, with their only victory against the struggling Dolphins.
New Orleans at Carolina Pick – Saints
This just in….the Saints are for real. If I hear them called the ‘other America’s team’ once more, I’m gonna puke. Not sure how the Panthers can be favored by 7.5. The Saints did a great job shutting down the Falcon offense Monday night. They’ll do the same to the Panthers’ so far pathetic offense on Sunday.
Miami at Houston Pick – Dolphins
If you hadn’t seen it, would you believe Carr is the highest ranked QB in the league? Houston fans would like Casserly hung….and can you blame them? Mario Williams has had no impact whatsoever. If he’s ever going to get a sack, this would be the week against a gimpy Culpepper.
San Francisco at Kansas City Pick – Chiefs
Herman Edwards has had two weeks to prepare Damon Huard for the 49ers. The 49ers have lost seven consecutive road games against the AFC. Look for Larry Johnson to have a big day.
Indianapolis at New York Jets Pick – Colts
The Colts won’t be challenged again until week seven.
Dallas at Tennessee Pick – Pukes
About the only thing interesting about this game will be whether or not T.O. plays. The saga continues.
Detroit at St. Louis Pick – Rams
Martz’s return won’t be pleasurable. Perhaps he can lend some advice to the Lion defense, who is ranked 29th in the league in pass defense, on how to defense Bulger (who is 21-4 at home as a starter).
New England at Cincinnati Pick – Bengals
Tough pick, but the Bengals are playing well and the Patriots aren’t.
Cleveland at Oakland Pick – Browns
Although the Faiders and Andrew Walter (who?) have had two weeks to prepare, they’ll wish they had three, as Charlie Frye wins this contest between second year QBs.
Jacksonville at Washington Pick – Redskins
It’s time for the Redskin defense to step up and dominate a team other than the Texans. Some big plays and a forced turnover or two sure would help our offense against a tough Jag defense.
Seattle at Chicago Pick – Bears
Although an obvious mistake was made picking against the Seahawks at home last week, they won’t be as fortunate against the Bears on the road.
Green Bay at Philadelphia Pick – Philthy
No contest. Fortunately Philthy isn’t going to be 4-0.
Bye Week: Broncos, Gnats, Steelers, Bucs
Last Week’s Results: 6-8
Season to Date: 25-21

Hognostications Counterpoint NFL Week 4
This Counterpoint started as an idea to write about my Hognostications and the reasons why I favoured one team over another during each NFL Week. Well, I know one thing: this is a marathon. It is very difficult to predict a season winner with only three NFL weeks under our belt. But some posters appear to be already building important leads that I know will be very difficult to overcome by some of us in the middle and lower part of the standings. Please do not misunderstand me. I am not conceding defeat or awarding victory to anybody. I am simply saying that we all have our job cut out for us and things will need to be taken a bit more seriously each week.
This Counterpoint now appears to suggest to me that it is also the best place to comment on the positions of various Hognosticators, their advances and regressions. We have only begun to take advantage of this new software and I have only started to scratch the surface about its possibilities to provide insights into the statistics and comparisons with the “professional experts” picks.
Am I boring you if I tell you again that I am MIGHTILY impressed with the quality and success of the picks made by our top Hognosticators? I thought so. Never mind, I do not care. Please stop and reflect on these points for a second:
1) We are a bunch of amateur, ignorant and uninformed Redskins fans, right?
2) The “professional experts” make a handsome full-time living following the game, right?
3) We do not have the vast amount of information put at their disposal by the networks, scouts and the media outlets, right?
So, how do the “professional experts” stats look if they are posted in our own standings?

First, how about those scores by our top guys???!!! We have not one or two but fourteen (14) Hognosticators ahead of the top “professional experts”. This fact is certainly remarkable if you do check that NOBODY in Vegas kept up with the scores obtained by our home-grown Hognosticators either.
Second, do you notice that NOBODY has a score under 50%? Please do not put down that number. You could be far worse if you pick home teams, flip a coin or exercise the random option. I know a girl doing pretty good with a crystal ball (in fact better than I do).
Third, to me, Peter “The Sleazy” King provides a measure of mediocrity:
Week 1 9 - 7 Week 2 10 - 6 Week 3 7 - 7 Total # 26 - 20
Sorry, this is my standard for grey. Those above him are doing OK. Those of us in his company are, well … mediocre. And those beneath and next to him have a challenge in front of them with A LOT of motivation to improve. After all, NOBODY is lower than a couple of games from him.
Fourth, it is a pity that some good scorers have not participated throughout the whole three weeks. ChrisHanburger, Skins4ever and skinz74 could have had a chance to get to the top places. So, please make sure you enter -every- week.
