Mr.Irrelevant Comes to Washington

The Redskins kept WR Mike Espy on the 53-man active roster this week, and on Tuesday they signed 6-2 , 200 pound WR Ryan Hoag to the practice squad. Hoag is a former track star who played briefly for the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings, after being the last player selected in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders, earned him the title of “Mr. Irrelevant.” Ryan is a first-year player out of Gustavus Adolphus.

» Joe Gibbs said to the press on Monday “I think we have certain principles that we know, that we win by and when we abide by those we’re going to win football games. Right now, we’re not getting that done.” On Wednesday he held a closed door team meeting to discuss the roadmap to becoming what the team “wants to be.” After the meeting Gibbs was asked how the meeting went and he replied “We have guys who care. We laid out a plan of what we think we need to do, and it’s all the way through the end of the season. We will see how we improve and work.”

» The Redskins defense is now ranked 28th in points allowed, last in sacks, interceptions and turnovers, 30th in total defense, and 30th against the pass after being ranked in the top 10 in all categories last year

» WR Santana Moss took part in individual drills but not the team portions of practice, and says his status is unchanged from a last week. T Jon Jansen, DE Phillip Daniels, C Casey Rabach, S Troy Vincent, WR David Patten, and T Chris Samuels were all held out of Wednesday’s practice.
