Here is a look at the most interesting numbers from the Washington Redskins 16-13 overtime victory over the Miami Dolphins in the season opener:
400 – Total yards of offense for the Redskins. Surprised?
273 – Total yards for Miami’s offense thanks to some good defensive play by the Redskins.
222 – Yards passing for Jason Campbell. His two interceptions may have been much more telling numbers had the outcome of the game been different.
162 – Yards receiving by Antwaan Randle El. Sure, almost 55 of them came on a long bomb to end regulation time, but at the end of the season, nobody will split those hairs. A.R.E. fantasy owners won’t split those hairs now, and he only caught the ball 5 times.
98 – Yards rushing for Clinton Portis, in his first action in weeks.
76 – Number worn by starting right tackle Jon Jansen who dislocated his ankle.
74 – Number of the rookie that took over for Jansen and played immaculately. Stephon Heyer stepped in and played out of position as Washington had elected to put Todd Wade on the inactive list for the game. What a great story Heyer is turning out to be.
64 – Yards on a booming punt by Derrick Frost. There was a holding penalty to the Dolphins on the play as well, so the net was 74 yards.
54 – The number of yards that both Randle El and Campbell will get for the Hail Mary that nearly won the Redskins the game. Jason Taylor batted down a Campbell bomb from the end zone, but right into the hands of a sprinting Randle El who could only get to the three yard line as time expired in regulaton.
39 – Number of yards in Shaun Suisham’s walk-off, game-winning field goal.
19 – Yard touchdown run by Clinton Portis.
17 – Number of carries by BOTH Portis and Ladell Betts; can’t split carries between two backs much more evenly than that.
10 – Number of yards in Chris Cooley’s only catch of the game. They were a big ten yards, but Cooley needs to catch more than one ball a game if the Redskins offense is to be successful in 2007.
3 – Field goals kicked by Suisham (31 yards, 44 yards, 39 yards).
2 – Uncharacteristic drops by Santana Moss.
1 – Redskin win.
0 – Redskin losses.
