2007 Season Recap:
The San Diego Chargers opened the 2007 season at home against the Chicago Bears, in a game in which LaDainian Tomlinson was held to twenty-five yards on seventeen carriers. Tomlinson, who went on to lead the NFL in rushing, threw for a touchdown and ran for one as the Chargers went one to win their only game in September 2007. They went into their bye week at .500 after beating the Broncos and Raiders by a combined 52 points after the bye the only lost two games. The Chargers made it to the AFC Conference Championship, where they lost 21-12 to the then unbeaten New England Patriots after forcing three turnovers and settling for field goals, while the Patriots were able to score three touchdowns.
Team Needs:
1. Defensive line – Jamal Williams played in his third Pro Bowl but recently underwent his second arthroscopic procedure this off-season and they could be looking to upgrade at defensive tackle by drafting a lineman suited for the 3-4 alignment.
2. Defensive back– Bringing in someone to add depth would be a good move for the Chargers, corner Drayton Florence signed with the Jaguars and safety Marlon McCree won’t be returning. Thirty year old safety Clinton Hart had a pretty good season and was third on the team with 109 tackles in his first year as a starter and corners Antonio Cromartie and. Quentin Jammer played well but there is no one behind them
3. Running back – The Chargers will need a backup running back who can spell LaDainian Tomlinson as Michael Turner did before heading to Atlanta. Turner has rushed for at least 300 yards in relief for Tomlinson each of the last three years and has a career average of 5.5 yards per carry, the Chargers won’t spend their first-round pick on a replacement for Turner but the position needs to be address.
