By The Numbers: Saints

By The Numbers Washington Commanders

The Redskins struggled a little early on, but finished with a bang to defeat the New Orleans Saints 29-24 at Fed Ex on Sunday. Here are some of the more interesting numbers from the game:

455 – Net yards for the Washington Redskins offense against the New Orleans Saints. The Skins had 209 total yards in week one against the Giants – enough said.

321 – Yards passing for Jason Campbell. Campbell found 9 different Redskin receivers on his 24 completions (36 attempts)

164 – Yards receiving by Santana Moss (on 7 receptions) – that’s a gaudy 23.5 yard average .

96 – Yards rushing for Clinton Portis. Considering the hooplah this week surrounding some of CP’s sound bytes, he sure seemed to be in synch with the offensive line on Sunday. His ability to earn valuable yardage on the ground, paved the way for the Redskins to open up the passing game.

72 – Big yards receiving for Chris Cooley. Captain Chaos was bowling over everything in his path, and made the absolute most of his 5 receptions.

67 – Yard touchdown pass from Campbell to Moss – the longest reception in Campbell’s career.

55 – Yards rushing for the Saints. Reggie Bush was held to just 28-yards on ten carries.

36 – Touchdown runs in a Redskin uniform for Clinton Portis. On his second touchdown of the day, Portis moved into fourth all-time in Skins history, passing the great Larry Brown.

28 – Yard punt from Durant Brooks. Believe it or not, that was Brooks’ better kick of the day because his 38-yard punt was returned 55 yards for a touchdown by Reggie Bush. 2 kicks totaling 66 yards, a 55-yard return – means a 5.5 yard net punt average. Ouch.

2 – Interceptions for rookie Chris Horton in his first ever NFL start. Horton also added a recovered fumble. Reed Doughty fell ill and could not play against the Saints, but considering Horton’s performance on Sunday, Doughty will likely now be in a dog fight to try and get his job back.

1 – Big win for Jim Zorn and the Washington Redskins
