Redskins Make Roster Moves, Add Former MVP

Washington Commanders

The Redskins were busy reshuffling the roster today. Here is a breakdown of the moves:

Signed:
Running Back Shaun Alexander
Safety Mike Green
Punter Ryan Plackemeier

Released:
Safety Justin Hamilton

Waived/Injured:
Punter Durant Brooks

Placed on Injured Reserve:
Safety Reed Doughty

Alexander, who was the NFL MVP in 2005 with the Seattle Seahawks, will fill in for Ladell Betts to back up Clinton Portis. Betts is currently nursing a sprained left knee.

Green, was a 7th round selection by the Chicago Bears in 2000 and was with the team until being acquired by the Seahawks in a trade in 2007.

Plackemeir, also a former Seahawk, won the Ray Guy Award for best college punter in 2005 at Wake Forest. He likely will replace current punter Durant Brooks, who has struggled this season while dealing with a hip flexor injury. Brooks will likely be placed on injured reserve.

Hamilton was signed by the Redskins in August and made one tackle in two games this season.

Doughty is suffering from a back injury and started in the teams season opener.
