By The Numbers
Here is a look at some of the ‘numbers’ from the Redskins 23-17 loss to the Giants on Sunday afternoon:
211 – Yards passing for Jason Campbell. Not bad, but not great either. He didn’t look overly confident at times, but the Giants pass rush can cause the best of teams fits.
98 – Yards receiving for Antwaan Randle El; perhaps his best game as a Redskin, and despite a botched option pass, he looked great in the slot.
68 – Yards receiving for Chris Cooley, including a 17 yard touchdown pass. Considering the miraculous statistic that Captain Chaos only got dialed up ONCE in the end zone in 2008, (and by A.R.E.), it was good to see Campbell and Cooley get their first touchdown together since November 25th, 2007!
62 – Yards rushing for Clinton Portis – with 34 of them coming on the game’s first run, the Giants limited CP to just 28 more yards on 15 more carries.
36 – Minutes in time of possession for the Giants – to the Redskins 24 – tough to win games when you can’t keep your defense off the field.
11 – Tackles by London Fletcher – 8 assists – what a machine.
8 – Tackles for LaRon Landry; unfortunately, he also looked like he was trying to avenge his 2008 trucking at the hands of Brandon Jacobs and at times, looked undisciplined. If he can turn that angst into disciplined energy, he’ll be great this year.
6 – Yards receiving for Santana Moss. He logged more punches with Corey Webster than he did receiving yards. There’s nothing wrong with playing with passion and getting fired up, but did it take him away from his game?
4 – Tackles for Albert Haynesworth in his Redskin debut. The Giants did what most teams are going to do, and tried to run away from Albert; but Albert also showed why teams will have to resort to giving up the gut plays – he just plugs up everything in the middle.
3 – Fumbles by the Redskins; while 2 of them were picked up by Washington, the third one was taken 37 yards to the house by Osi Umenyiora. Turnovers are costly enough, but the ones that result in immediate scores hurt twice as much it seems.
1 – Sweet trick play dialed up by Danny Smith and executed by Hunter Smith – it was Jim Zorn’s best call of the game.
1 – Sack for Andre Carter. He had a good game, and will definitely benefit from the added attention that Haynesworth garners.
1 – Loss on the season – nothing more, nothing less.
Up next is the St. Louis Rams – they didn’t have many numbers to look at after a 28-0 drubbing at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks.
