Hog Blog with Adam Carriker – Week 1

Interviews News Washington Commanders

I am Adam Carriker and this is my first blog of the year. I will be blogging every week throughout the football season this year. I will be talking about the previous game and the upcoming game. I will also be talking about anything else that may be going on in Redskins nation, or just the world as we know it.

As many of you may know I spent my first three years of my NFL career with the St. Louis Rams. It was a very long three years as you can imagine. I will never forget the day I was traded. I worked out with my teammates in St. Louis; I showered just like any other day. Then one of the men from upstairs told me that coach wanted to talk to me. I had heard rumors of a trade, but didn’t think much of it. When I walked into Coach Spagnulo’s office, Billy Devaney, the GM of the Rams, was sitting in his office. I knew right away what was about to happen. They informed me I had been traded to the Washington Redskins.

I was partially in shock, I was partially relieved, but I mostly just couldn’t keep the smile off my face. My chance of winning and being on a good team just increased by a whole lot. They informed me that I had a flight at 6 PM out to D.C. It was really weird and crazy. I went to work just like any other day in one city and on one team, and then minutes later I was informed I was working on the other side of the country on a different NFL team. I flew out to DC that night and met with the coaches.

Two days later I flew back to my now former city and my family and I proceeded to move our belongings and our lives to a part of the country none of us had ever had anything to do with previously in our lives and about as far away from our families as we could possibly be. This business is absolutely amazing and extremely unique. Like I said, we were in shock, but were also jubilant about our new endeavor and the next chapter of our lives.

Since I’ve been in D.C., I’ve learned just how much Redskin fans love their team and just how big of a rivalry the Cowboys are. This Sunday is going to be absolutely crazy. I can’t imagine how insane the atmosphere is going to be on Sunday night. I’ve played in many big games in my life, but the thought of it still sends butterflies to my stomach. I suppose the day I don’t get butterflies in my stomach is the day I should no longer lace up my cleats.

Since I’ve been here I’ve enjoyed my time immensely. I’ve learned that the guys on the team are great! They are hard working guys who get along really well. The D-lineman are an especially great group of guys. We get along and work well together. Phillip Daniels and myself get along particularly well. We are very similar in our approach to the game. We also love to lift and work hard in the weight room. I’ve seen his videos of him squatting 722 lbs. That is very impressive. He says he could have done 800 that day but he wanted to be safe. I consider myself to be a pretty strong guy myself. I bench right around 500 lbs and I can hang clean 315 lbs five or six times. So, needless to say, we have a friendly rivalry in the weight room, we push each other to work harder.

I will end this first blog by saying I can’t wait until Sunday night, and I can’t wait to see Redskin Nation in full force for the first time. See you Sunday!!!
