Listening to former Redskins pretend quarterback Donovan McNabb cry like a nine-year old girl with a scuffed knee, is really too rich for words. But it made me think back on a little Redskins anecdote…
… Back in 2003, I was fortunate enough to attend a fan festival put on by Ken Harvey. It was a great day for all involved – access to legendary former Redskins, games to play, inspirational speeches, coaching instruction and much, much more. It was a fantastic day that I still remember like it was yesterday.
Lucky old me drew the task of interviewing some former Redskins after they came down off of the main stage, and let me tell you, it was the thrill of a lifetime. I could go on and on about the conversations I had, but I’m blogging this today because of one particular story that was relayed to me.
We sat down with Pat Fischer, and it was a gong show right from the start – and I mean that in the absolute best of ways. He was an absolute hoot. During the course of our interview, he started to tell us about the late great George Allen – father of Redskins current GM Bruce Allen. Fischer was talking about players in the twilight of their careers and how sometimes they just didn’t seem to get it, that they were done. I’m paraphrasing and summizing a five-minute story into a sentence or two, but the crux of it was this… when George Allen had a player that refused to accept that perhaps their playing days were done, or at least their starting days, he came and took away their helmet at practice.
Fischer said that if Allen came and took away your helmet, he was telling you that you were finished.
After seeing Donovan McNabb bellyache about the Redskins, and his treatment in D.C., and how he thought RGIII was a bad fit, and blah fricking blah, blah… I was left with just one thought…
For the love of Pete, will someone please TELL Donovan McNabb that they already took away his helmet?
I am NOT a McNabb Fan, But His Points Are Quite Valid….. Poppa Shanny’s record is Spotty outside of The Terrell Davis Years(With ALL due respect to John Elway). The Texans are not a TOP Run Team now That Kyle isn’t Forcing The Offense to throw 70% of the time.
This is Bull. Donavan McNappy is just a bitter crybaby. He choked in every big game in Philly. Was is because they Boo him at the draft? He came to Washington and was bended because he thought he knew everything, and wasn’t in shape or smart enough to run the 2 minute drill. He went to Minnesota and wet the bed there because he didn’t practice like a starting QB should and reports was he was not in shape there ether. Rather than man up and put in the work he asked to be release because once again he thought he was smarter than everyone else and thought someone would snatch him up. WRONG!!!! Now he will be out of the league unless someone wants a back up.
He need to stop with the whoa is me attitude and start owning up the fact that he just isn’t as good as he thinks he is anymore or should I say ever was.
