Redskins ‘Final’ Roster

The Washington Redskins, and all other NFL teams, had until 9 pm last night to name their 53-man roster. As of 11pm, the Redskins had still only named 52 players. Obviously they have a certain player or position in mind, so they left a spot open, rather than have to juggle again later when that aforementioned player is acquired.
So I guess it isn’t a ‘final’ roster, but here’s who made it:
QB (3): Robert Griffin III*, Rex Grossman, Kirk Cousins
RB (4): Roy Helu Jr., Evan Royster, Alfred Morris, Darrel Young
WR (7): Pierre Garcon, Santana Moss, Josh Morgan, Leonard Hankerson, Aldrick Robinson, Dezmon Briscoe, Brandon Banks
TE (3): Fred Davis, Niles Paul, Logan Paulsen
OL (9): Trent Williams, Kory Lichtensteiger, Will Montgomery, Chris Chester, Tyler Polumbus, Maurice Hurt, Jordan Black, Josh LeRibeus*, Adam Gettis*

It was also announced yesterday that S Tanard Jackson had been suspended for substance abuse.
Some moderate surprises like Tim Hightower, Bryan Kehl, and Anthony Armstrong, given that there were some rumors swirling yesterday that he might get dealt to the Dolphins for RN Steve Slaton. Brandon Banks making the list is a surprise to some, only in that he never did establish himself as a receiver as Mike Shanahan indicated that he would have to.
Also some tough luck breaks for some youngsters like Markus White, Brandyn Thompson and Willie Smith – all 3 who are eligible, and will likely end up on the practice squad if they clear waivers.
OL Tom Compton was the only 2012 draft pick to not make the roster, but he will also likely be named to the practice squad if he clears.

YOU KNOW I AM SO CONFUSED AS A SKINS FAN. I GUESS I KNOW TO MUCH AND AM NOT AS STUPID AS THE THE COACHING STAFF AND MANAGEMENT THINKS WE MUST BE. I MEAN ONE MINUTE YOU LOOK LIKE YOU WANT TO WIN NOW AND THEN NEXT IT LIKE YOUR REBUILDING WTH. YOU TRADE A LOCAL NICE YOUNG CORNER LIKE WE ARE SO ESTABLISHED THERE, FOR THOSE THAT CAN’T FOLLOW THAT’S A WERE GOOD ENOUGH TO WIN NOW MOVE, THEN YOU KEEP AND PUT ON THE PUP LIST AN OLDER INJURED J BROWN??? AND CUT THE MOST TENURED AND LOVED AND CAN I ADD EXPERIENCED TE ONLY TO KEEP A POT HEAD PRE MADONNA WHO IS COCKY AS HELL IN DAVIS AND 2 NOBODY’S IN PAULSON AND JUST MADE A TE THIS YEAR PAUL REALLY. LOOK I UNDERSTAND THE CONTRACT WITH COOLEY BUT DINT INSULT ME AND TELL ME HE WANTS TO START SOMEWHERE NOW. LOOK FIRST I KNOW THEY TRIED TO TRADE HIM TO EVERY TEAM AND ALL SAID NO AND SECOND IF IT WAS CONTRACT CAN’T YOU RENEGOTIATE. PLEASE. For the most part I like the roster but, brian kehl should have made this team. He is the only linebacker to even be in position to make some interceptions during the preseason, none of the other LB were even close. Yes he dropped 2 but he made the third opportunity count. It shows he was at least hustling and should be given a chance on this team. He would be a better choice than rob Jackson or chris Wilson. Maybe even better than Alexander who is playing out of position. I like Alexander but I like young hungry guys who truly know the position. Hate the fact we let chris Cooley go for nothing in return. Davis is not a better TE, nor is he as consistent as Cooley has been. When is the last time Cooley failed a drug test, or 2 drug test?? So much for only wanting character guys on this team. Smh.

i like the roster and like how we have depth now at most positions. team looks real good and we now have 2 quarterbacks!!! ( rex is not one of them!! ) kind of curious how having 2 good rookie quarterbacks will play out through the season. i was kind of surprised at hightower and cooley getting cut but that is what having depth means, tough decisions to make. looking forward to first game vs saints
