It isn’t just the fans in #RedskinsNation that are pawing over their new quarterback, and gushing about his every move, even the ‘experts’ can’t keep their hands to themselves.
John Madden decided to wax poetic to Sirius XM NFL radio yesterday about how Griffin was, “… the best player in the NFL today.”
No pressure, no diamonds.
The former MNF stalwart went on to say, “You know, the thing that he did that was so amazing was he reminded me — and I don’t mean to throw names around — but he reminded me of a Tim Tebow that can pass.”
Huh John? You lost me there. Why?
“You know, Tim Tebow, when he was playing for Denver last year, he would tend to freeze the defenses, because they weren’t sure if it was run or pass, if he was gonna hand off or run. I mean, he couldn’t pass like RGIII — [Griffin] can throw the ball — but he has a tendency to freeze the defense.”
Well that definitely makes them near genetic clones of each other doesn’t it Mr. Madden? Thanks for the stunning insight.
So apparently even the NFL pundits can’t gush without sounding stupid. It isn’t just the fans:
Brian Billick: “He was so poised, so under control. Clearly Washington, of all the rookie quarterbacks, Washington is probably the best team, and we’ve all recognized that….I can’t be more impressed with RGIII and Washington than I am now, the fact that they went on the road, in New Orleans, in the dome, and won the way they did.”
Tom Brady: “He’s incredible.”
Donovan McNabb: “Well you know what, I look at the way they started the game out. I thought they did a great job for him of throwing these wide receiver screens to gain his confidence, get his poise, get everything going on the offensive standpoint. They ran the ball well. So they did a great job of getting him involved….He began to ease into the game and he lit things up.”
Apparently McNugget forgot everything that he said about the Shanahans in the offseason or just preferred to ignore his ignorance.
Mike Ditka: “Robert Griffin’s special. What he did yesterday was poise under pressure. I mean, he showed tremendous poise. He’s a great athlete. I don’t think people realize what a great athlete he is, how well he runs with the ball, his accuracy as a thrower is as good as I’ve seen for a young man….I’m saying, right now, Robert Griffin is pretty special.”
And finally from the quarterback that he went head-to-head with on Sunday, Drew Brees:
“I thought he was extremely impressive. Obviously I wasn’t real locked in on what he was doing — I was focusing on what we were gonna do next time out. But it looked like he was making a lot of plays with his arm and with his feet. And they sustained a lot of drives. They kept our defense out there a long time. They were consistently scoring points. They were doing everything that you’d want to do offensively. So looked like he played well; unfortunately we weren’t able to match what they were doing.”
Believe it or not, there are many, many more. Look ANYWHERE at yesterday’s articles, or the day’s before. The entoire nation seems to be gushing over RGIII this week, it isn’t just you!!
