The Redskins improved to 3-0 in the preseason with their well-rounded 30-7 victory over the Buffalo Bills Saturday afternoon. Although scores and records don’t matter in the preseason, performance does. Here’s what I took away from yesterday’s game:

1) I was impressed with how the reserves held their own against the Bills starters into the third quarter. That says a lot about the depth of this team.
2) Alfred Morris showed great vision and did a good job of making something out of nothing in his runs.
3) Rex Grossman is Rex Grossman. Has no fear. Makes some good throws. Makes some really bad ones like the one Gilmore should have picked off.
4) Pat White has put his heart and soul into making an impression in this league after four years away. I still don’t see him making the Redskins despite how well he has played but he may have played his way onto someone else’s roster.
5) Richard Crawford’s loss will be big but will give the team a better look at Chase Minnifield to make an impact.
6) Crawford’s loss will also give Chris Thompson an opportunity at punt returner. As a runner, Thompson must hold on to the ball better to make an impact on the team.
7) The defensive front seven still got a strong push against Buffalo’s o-line even without Barry Cofield in the lineup.
8 ) Darryl Tapp and Brandon Jenkins have been impressive. Tapp has been solid with his pass rush, especially when he rushes through the interior of the opposing offensive lines. Jenkins showed attentiveness when he was pancaked by Bills offensive lineman Erik Pears but was still able to get off the ground enough to sack Kevin Kolb for a 13-yard loss on Buffalo’s first drive in the first quarter.
9) It was good to see Jordan Reed have an improved game. Made some nice catches when he needed to.
10) Roy Helu added to his strong preseason resume. Has all but secured his spot as the team’s third down back.
11) Logan Paulsen continues to prove to be a strong receiving option despite having the build and speed of someone used primarily as a blocking tight end. He makes catches that can be difficult for a lot of receivers to make and always continues to look forward after the catch to gain more yardage.
12) Kai Forbath is Kai Forbath. He’s been spectacular all summer. He can hit them from all distances, even a 54-yarder twice
13) David Amerson continued to show he’s not afraid of being physical in coverage. He suffered a “welcome-to-the-NFL” moment on C.J. Spiller’s run down the left sideline with 6:55 left in the first quarter. Also gave up a 42-yard penalty with a pass interference against Bills wideout T.J. Graham.
14) Dezmon Briscoe had a good 24-yard catch against Buffalo but hasn’t really stood out at all this preseason, which is disappointing because of his talent and upside.
15) Bryan Kehl has had a good preseason. Very active and attentive. Not a world-beater but a solid replacement for Lorenzo Alexander on defense and special teams.
16) The Redskins were fantastic with clock management and controlling the tempo of the game by putting up 38:52 of offensive possession and outgaining Buffalo 452 yards to 155.
17) Sav Rocca did a very good job of punting for distance and punting for placement when needed. Used a good directional punting to pin the Bills at their 12-yard line early in the second quarter.
