Washington Sign Offensive and Defensive Lineman Before Mini Camp

News Transactions Washington Commanders

The Washington football team made two minor roster moves yesterday, signing veteran defensive tackle Gabe Wright and interior offensive lineman Najee Toran. Both were signed just before mini camp began.

Wright has played in 15 career games since entering the NFL in 2015. He was a fourth round pick of Detroit, but he has also spent time in Cleveland, Philadelphia, Miami, Oakland and Jacksonville. He also played in the XFL before it folded.

With 12 career tackles, he isn’t likely to supplant Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, Matt Ioannidis or Tim Settle. It’s a depth signing to encourage good camp battles. Coach Ron Rivera loves competition at all positions.

Much the same goes for Toran, who was released by the Patriots last month. He sat out last year because of COVID, after originally signing with New England in 2019.

Previous to that, he was with the San Francisco 49ers, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2018.

Washington announced both moves via Twitter yesterday.
