Victory Monday: Commanders Snatch Win From Broncos

The Washington Commanders victory over the Denver Broncos on Sunday was a bit if an anomaly. Why? Because Washington haven’t opened a season at 2-0 since the Occupy Wall Street movement.

That’s right, they haven’t won their first two regular season games since 2011.

It was a very tight game. Perhaps more poignantly, it definitely didn’t look like it was going to happen for at least half of the game. In fact, it almost fell through at the last moment as well.

First Look: Commanders Vs Cardinals – Head-to-Head, Odds And More

The Washington Commanders head in to their Week 1 match-up against the Arizona Cardinals beginning a new era – the Josh Harris Era. Though it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, it is also known as the Non-Dan-Snyder-Era. Given how things have been in Washington for the last two decades, that’s a monumental moment in franchise history.

What does the new era hold for Washington fans? So far – unbridled joy.

Here is a look at the matchup between these two teams.

Washington Trash The Cowboys In The Season Finale

With nothing to play for but pride, the Washington Commanders handed the Dallas Cowboys their proverbial behinds in the final game of the 2022 regular season. Washington outclassed the Cowboys 26-6 largely on the strength of a colossal effort from their defense.

In what may very well have been the very last time that the Commanders took the field with Dan Snyder as owner, there wasn’t much to play for. Perhaps that’s fitting given the tumultuous times of the past two decades-plus under Snyder’s thumb. Washington were eliminated from Wild Card contention in Week 17, and no result from them in Week 18 was going to change that.

Given that, the Commanders chose to sit some regulars in lieu of evaluating some talent that had seen little or no playing time this season. That included getting quarterback Sam Howell his first start.

Officials Take A Giant Dump On Washington’s Playoff Hopes

They say that no one play determines the outcome of a football game – and that’s probably true. But what about when multiple plays seemingly go against a team unfairly? For that certainly seemed to be the case for Washington on Sunday Night in their 20-12 loss to the New York Giants.

Did Washington play well?

Not particularly.

Did they play well enough to win?

That’s tough to say as well.

Not A Win, Not A Loss – Commanders And Giants Settle For Unsatisfying Tie

Bittersweet. That’s what any tie in the National Football League seems to be. It doesn’t feel like a win. It doesn’t feel like a loss. Players often have no idea how to feel about the result. Such was the case on Sunday for Washington Commander and New York Giant players and fans alike, after a 20-20 draw.

Both teams could have really used the win, as both are vying for the final Wild Card spot in this year’s playoff race.

Washington Vs Atlanta: It Wasn’t Pretty, But A Win Is A Win

There’s an old saying that you don’t get any extra points for how you win a game. That’s likely the best way to look at Washington’s narrow 19-13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The game was in the balance all the way until the very end, when Daron Payne tipped a Marcus Mariota pass, just yards from the goal line. Kendall Fuller subsequently intercepted that pass with just 58 seconds to go, and Washington walked away with their sixth win in the last seven games.

Even after the interception, the game wasn’t decided. Washington could not get a first down and were forced to punt the ball away with 32 seconds left. Fortunately, punter Tress Way was nudged during his punt, and the Commanders were handed yet another olive branch.

And managed another win.

Washington Spank Houston With Solid Defensive Effort

It would have been easy to let their foot off the gas after their huge win over the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. Instead, the Washington Commanders doubled down and earned a decisive 23-10 victory over a Houston Texans team that never really even got into the game. The Commanders’ victory put them at 6-5 and above .500, for the first time since winning their season opener.

Taylor Heinicke earned himself another new pair of shoes. This time a red, white and blue pair.

Commanders Knock Eagles Off Their Undefeated Perch

There weren’t a lot of people giving the Commanders much of a chance of beating the 8-0 Eagles leading into the Monday Night Football game. That’s why they play the games. Any Given Sunday. Washington stunned Philadelphia and their fans with a 32-21 victory and handed them their first loss of the season.

Eagles fans and pundits were quick to complain. And cry.

“The refs gave them the game.”

Boo hoo hoo.
