The final scoreline may not have shown it, but the Washington Redskins dominated the Arizona Cardinals in their 24-6 victory in the season opener. Jay Gruden got his first win in a season opener in five tries, and first-year Redskins Alex Smith and Adrian Peterson made impressive debuts for the burgundy and gold. There was money to be made, so hopefully you had a look at this You Wager review before picking an online betting outlet.

Smith was acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs in the offseason to replace Kirk Cousins, and the 34-year old quarterback came out and shredded the Cardinals defense. The veteran looked poised and in complete control of Gruden’s offense. He had touchdown passes of 13 yards to Jordan Reed and 4 yards to Chris Thompson, and finished 21 of 30 for 255 yards. There isn’t a playoff position on the line for the Redskins; nor for the Cardinals. For all intents and purposes, this is a meaningless NFL football game. Bookmakers still have the Redskins betting odds this week as four point favorites, but it remains to be seen if the “home field” advantage will amount to much.

To be accurate, the Cardinals do technically have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs, but Venus has to align with Mars, while the Sun eclipses both. Arizona are 6-7 and while there are still scenarios that can be laid out that see them make the playoffs, they aren’t likely to happen. They are two full games back, with four to go, and there are six teams ahead of them vying for those last two Wild Card berths. Not going to happen.

The Redskins are already out and this week started to shut some things down. Jordan Reed was finally put on the injured reserve after six consecutive weeks on the inactive list. Conventional wisdom says that he will still be a Redskin in 2018, but that remains to be seen. As incredibly talented a player as the tight end obviously is, he spends as much time on the inactive list or injured reserve, as he does on the field.  Read more... After four lead changes in the second half alone, Carson Palmer hit J.J. Nelson with a 42-yard pass with less than two minutes remaining, to take a 31-23 lead and put the game away for good. In the process, the Redskins lost their grip on the second wild card spot as they fell to 6-5-1; and coupled with a Tampa Bay Buccaneers win, put the Redskins on the outside looking in, as they drive for the playoffs over their last four games. Palmer threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns on the day, but second year running back David Johnson was the difference maker.

He not only scored twice, but led all running backs in carries and yards (18 for 84), while simultaneously leading all receivers in both receptions and yards (9 for 91). Well friends, here we are. You have waited almost nine full months for this Friday to come – the Friday before the first week of the season. Many of you will be spending the next 48 hours thinking about wagers for this week. After all, football and gambling go together like bacon and bacon.

For those who read my last blog about Grossman (Redskins Start With Grossman) you’ll note I kind of predicted this last weekend’s performance.

 

For the game, Grossman was 21 of 34 (62% completion) for 305 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions (though one was close) and one fumble. While Antrel Rolle may whine about how the Giants would beat the Redskins “95 out of 100 times” Rolle has failed to recognize that we didn’t beat New York because our offense was better; we beat them because our defense was.  Read more... Its definitely too early to really make play-off predictions, but Steve Wyche did so any way. There’s no real surprise information here. Obviously, he has the Giants, Panthers and Cardinals as locks, since all three of these teams are the class of their division, at least as it presently looks in the standings.
