Washington Vs Atlanta: It Wasn’t Pretty, But A Win Is A Win

There’s an old saying that you don’t get any extra points for how you win a game. That’s likely the best way to look at Washington’s narrow 19-13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The game was in the balance all the way until the very end, when Daron Payne tipped a Marcus Mariota pass, just yards from the goal line. Kendall Fuller subsequently intercepted that pass with just 58 seconds to go, and Washington walked away with their sixth win in the last seven games.

Even after the interception, the game wasn’t decided. Washington could not get a first down and were forced to punt the ball away with 32 seconds left. Fortunately, punter Tress Way was nudged during his punt, and the Commanders were handed yet another olive branch.

And managed another win.

There is a series of events that can transpire and get Washington into the playoffs. And it’s not that far-fetched or ridiculous either.

First and foremost, Washington have to win both of their two remaining games of course.

Next Up For the WFT In Week 4, The Atlanta Falcons

The Washington Football Team will face the Atlanta Falcons at the Mercedes Benz Superdome on Sunday. Both teams have 1-2 records coming into the match-up.

Washington were pounded by Josh Allen and the Bills this past Sunday at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo. Allen racked up 350-plus yards passing to go with his five touchdowns – four of them passing, and one of them on the ground.

The WFT defense that was so talked about in the offseason, seemed to have no answers.

Falcon Anecdote

I remember years ago when the site was part of the Fan 2 Fan Alliance and every week, fans of other teams would raid our message board. It was weekly pandemonium. The internet was different then. There was one particular occasion where we were playing the Falcons… given today’s game against Atlanta, it seemed an appropriate time to reminisce.

At the time we were doing a weekly podcast with then Redskins receiver Brandon Lloyd. The following day, one of the Atlanta fans hit our message boards to mock me.
