Flashback Friday: Washington Vs Philly – The Body Bag Game

The Body Bag Game. It was thirty-one years ago today – November 12th, 1990 – on a Monday Night football game at Veteran’s Stadium. A nationwide audience watched Washington lose 28-14 to the Philadelphia Eagles in what is widely regarded as one of the roughest games of football ever played.

The game is called the Body Bag Game because before the game, Eagles Coach Buddy Ryan told reporters that “they’ll have to be carted off in body bags.”

During the game, an Eagles player reacted to one of the Washington injuries by asking, “Do you guys need any more body bags?”

New Redskins Show For Redskins Nation

Next week a brand new show will be starting up for Redskins Nation – one that promises to be a ton of fun. Some of you may remember that last year I was a regular on Brian Mitchell’s ‘Tailgate Show’ – a show that featured us regular Joe Redskins fans talking with Redskins players, and of course with Brian.

Brian has his thumb in a lot of pies this season, so the show’s producer Matt DeNapoli wanted to come up with something equally cool for Redskins fans, and that would allow Brian to still participate when available.

After jumping through some hoops, it is now official – they will be doing a new show called ‘1st and Goal’ with the Redskins starting fullback Darrel Young!

Special THN Tie-In On the B-Mitch Show Tonight

Just a heads up to the THN community and Redskins Nation that I will be on the Brian Mitchell Tailgate Show tonight at 7pm on It is a very special panel for tonight’s show, as the crew of the show asked me to round up the guys that chip in, and help me put out the Game Day Preview article every week.

As if it’s not enough of an honor to be on the show, to be on the show based on the quality of a piece of Redskins content that comes from this site, is high praise indeed.

BMitchlive Show Gets An Overhaul

After more than thirty great shows on their current set, Brian Mitchell and his crew will be launching an all new look on Friday’s Tailgate Show. The web show at already has a very professional look and feel to it, so what could possibly be in store for the new digs? I figured there was only one logical way to find out – ask them.

Having just been on the show last week myself, I have to admit that I was more than intrigued when Brian leaked a sneak peak to the new set’s existence on Twitter this week. I promptly asked the show’s Creative Director Ben Brletic, if it was alright if I forwarded along a few questions for them. Ben graciously obliged and promised that I would have them back in short order – and then carried through with that promise (Thanks Ben).

THN on The B-Mitch Tailgate Show

Last night I was fortunate enough to make my first appearance on Brian Mitchell’s new Tailgate Show. If you’re not familiar with the show, please check out my blog from when THN’s own Bobby Johnson was on the show a few weeks ago.

Brian Mitchell has been coming by this website for a few years, and was interacting with the fan base here, before Twitter, before Facebook, before players actually interacted with the fans. I have always been very appreciative of the fact that he did so, and I have always tried to reciprocate that support wherever I could.

Mitchell Brings Redskin Fans A New Experience

The premier of the Brian Mitchell ‘Tailgate’ show aired tonight and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sure I have a biased opinion because THN was included in the show, but the format and the overall feel has a tangible quality that for me as a fan, was very different; moreover, it was extremely entertaining.

Hey, Dan… Wouldn't a vacation be nice?

“Linus! You’ve got to lose the blanket! Oh yeah!”

There is one thing that the Redskins have plenty of… and that is retired great running backs who have an opinion. Riggins has joined the pig pile, along with B. Mitch. There seems to be a bit of a competition to see who can contribute the wittiest commentary. That would definitely have to be Riggo… B. Mitch seems to have the bigger bite, though.
