Commanders Move Back, Then Take WR Dotson At Sixteen Spot

The Washington Commanders went into Thursday night, having just six picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. When the time came to make a pick with their first one, they struck a deal with the New Orleans Saints and added two more selections. Five picks later, they selected wide receiver Jahan Dotson out of Penn State.

The Deal

Washington surrendered their 11th overall pick to New Orleans. In exchange, the Saints gave up the 16th overall pick, as well as picks in the 3rd (98th overall) and 4th (120th overall) rounds.

Washington entered  the 2021 Free Agency period with the goal of improving their stock at wide receiver. In a manner of days, they signed top prospect Curtis Samuel, and then added Adam Humphries as a slot receiver. They also added slot receiver DeAndre Carter for punt and kickoff returns. So where does that leave fourth year man Cam Sims?

Sims is just 25 years old, and is on a cap-friendly of $2.2M per year deal after signing his free agent tender in March. Adding to his lack of job security is the fact that he is a holdover from the last coaching regime – not the current one.
