Clinton Portis Gets Six Months Jail Time For Fraud

Former Washington running back Clinton Portis has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for defrauding a health care benefit program for retired NFL veterans. He also received six months of home confinement.

The 40-year old plead guilty to the charges in September.

Portis was charged for filing false claims for medical equipment that he never received.

Flashback Friday: This Day in 2007

On this day, October 7th in 2007, the Washington Redskins crushed the Detroit Lions 34-3.

Jason Campbell was a near perfect 23 of 29 for 248 yards. He threw two touchdown passes for a stellar quarterback rating of 128.3. Antwaan Randle El led all Redskin receivers with 100 yards on 7 receptions.

Not only did Carlos Rogers actually catch a ball that hit him in the hands, he returned it 61 yards for a touchdown (this was before getting his eyes fixed of course – if you remember, he couldn’t catch a cold).

Recapping Day 3 of Redskins Free Agency

The Redskins made their biggest move of the day early Thursday morning by shipping disgruntled defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2013 5th round draft pick. This ends a dark chapter because Haynesworth is widely viewed as arguably the biggest free agent bust in franchise history, which should say something. Ironically, Haynesworth heads to another team with a 3-4 defense and a coach regarded as even stricter than Mike Shanahan in Bill Belichick.

My Top 10 Free Agent Targets

It looks like we may be starting football pretty soon, so it seemed prudent to knock out what I think are 10 great free agents for the Washington Redskins to target.

1. Aubrayo Franklin – NT – The 3-4 defense relies on a true nose tackle, and Franklin is the best available in free agency. He won’t come cheap which is a concern for any over 30 lineman, but his ability to free up linebackers Brian Orakpo and rookie Ryan Kerrigan, make adding him a must.  The Redskins will have money to spend, and despite needing many pieces, settling for less than Franklin, will be just that, settling.

Sit Down Carlos

Cornerback Carlos Rogers was benched on Sunday, after giving up a 40-yard touchdown reception to Brandon Marshall. On the play, Rogers was beaten badly on a double move, allowing Marshall to get behind him and make the catch.
