Of One’s Own Free Will, That’s What Voluntary Means

The Offseason Training Activities (OTAs) are voluntary. It’s amazing how many people seem to forget that. It’s written into the Collective Bargaining Agreement for a reason. That agreement is intended to strike a balance between players and owners – and to hopefully be a fair compromise for both parties.

Voluntary is supposed to mean of one’s own free will.

In Washington, voluntary seems to mean, of one’s own free will that toes the corporate line.

It is the first time in the offseason that rookies and veterans are permitted to come together. Chase Young Will Start Against The Browns This Week

Last week, Chase Young got back to doing what he loves – playing football. After a year on the shelf, the stud defensive end finally got to make his 2022 debut against the San Francisco 49ers.

The former Defensive Player of the Year played very well.

The official word was that Young would be on a short leash last week. That he would play somewhere in the neighborhood of 16 snaps. After all, a torn ACL and patellar tendon is a very serious injury. One that can have career-shortening ramifications if not careful.

Commanders Vs Cowboys: The Good, The Bad And The Fugly

The Commanders took on division rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and came up short. Really short. The scoreline of 25-10 for Dallas was if anything, flattering to Washington.

The defense put up a decent fight at times, but the offense was once again, anaemic. They have managed just 18 points in the last two contests.

Fans are clamoring for Carson Wentz to take a seat in favor of Taylor Heinicke – or even more desperately, Sam Howell.

Curtis Samuel, WR

The former Carolina Panther has agreed to a 3-year, $34.5 million deal with Washington, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Washington considered it a big need to get more downfield speed, and did so. Not only did they fill their number two receiver slot to pair with Terry McLaurin, they chose his friend and former teammate at Ohio State. Samuels can operate outside or in the slot, and offensive coordinator Scott Turner already knows how to tap into Samuel’s versatility. Grade: A
