Game Thoughts: Redskins v. Buccaneers

The Redskins finished up the preseason with a 24-10 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and finished with a (completely irrelevant) 3-1 record. While the result and record may be insignificant in the broadest of schemes, the game meant everything to many of the Redskins who played – guys fighting for their NFL lives. Who helped or hurt themselves?

Here are ten guys that helped themselves:

Neild Lost For Season

Mike Shanahan announced today, that Washington Redskins defensive tackle Chris Neild, has a torn ACL and will be done for the season.

After a Cinderella rookie campaign that saw the West Virginia product get drafted with the next-to-last pick in the NFL Draft, only to not only make the Redskins final 53-man roster, but make a considerable and valuable contribution in his first year. He appeared in 15 games (162 plays), registering 10 tackles, and two sacks.

Evan Royster Wallpaper

To commemorate a great close to the season from Redskins’ running back Evan Royster, I was inspired to do up a wallpaper to honor his two consecutive 100-plus yard rushing efforts.

The rookie got his first career NFL start against the Vikings, when fellow rookie running back Roy Helu couldn’t go. I had a couple of game photos that came courtesy of Jake and Teri Russell, and I couldn’t decide which ones to use. So I used two of them! I liked both shots but couldn’t think of a theme that would use both, so I did up two completely different graphics.

Recapping Day 3 of Redskins Free Agency

The Redskins made their biggest move of the day early Thursday morning by shipping disgruntled defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2013 5th round draft pick. This ends a dark chapter because Haynesworth is widely viewed as arguably the biggest free agent bust in franchise history, which should say something. Ironically, Haynesworth heads to another team with a 3-4 defense and a coach regarded as even stricter than Mike Shanahan in Bill Belichick.
