Washington Adds Dates And Times To Pre-Season Match-Ups

The Washington Football Team announced their schedule earlier this week, but only one of the three pre-season dates was set at that time. On Friday Washington finalized the pre-season schedule, with dates and times.

Washington will host the Cincinnati Bengals on August 20th in their second game. Kickoff time is 8:00 pm.

Their final pre-season game will be their regular Beltway tussle with the Ravens. That match-up goes August 27th at 4:00 pm at Fed Ex.

Week 6 NFL Picks

Once I get about five or six games into a season, I start to gamble with a little bit more fervor. After all, you have a much better sense of all 32 teams’ relative ability by this point.

Great Super Bowl

As much as I hated the entire week leading up to the Super Bowl, the game itself was absolutely fantastic. It was… what the Super Bowl is supposed to be. A closely contested battle between what were quite obviously the league’s two best teams.

Let’s face it, the Seahawks blew it. There isn’t a coach / player / team alive that wouldn’t take the scenario that Seattle had. Down by just 4 points – less than a minute to go – but with the ball on the one yard line and with the game’s absolute best power back in your backfield. Marshawn Lynch can gain a yard on nearly any play, he is #BeastMode for a reason. That reason. The guy can run with 8 NFL players on his back. His leg drive is incredible.

So how on earth do you call a pass?

Deflate-Gate?

By now I am sure you have heard about the “deflate-gate” scandal that is buzzing through the news wires this morning. The New England Patriots are being investigated for using deflated footballs in the rain, in their dismantling of the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

The only balls that got deflated were Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts’.

It was FORTY-FIVE-TO-SEVEN. Hello?

But surely enough, out come the Monday Morning soapbox stances from anyone with an opinion.

Ahem… here’s mine. 😉

Redskins Preparing for Free Agency

Entering free agency with an abundance of cap space gives the Redskins lots of options to fill plenty of needs, even after re-signing cornerback DeAngelo Hall, defensive tackle Chris Baker, safety Jose Gumbs and franchising linebacker Brian Orakpo.

The Redskins dropped off dramatically after a division title in 2012. Following a 10-6 season they returned back to the NFC East basement in 2013 with a 3-13 record and no first-round pick to show for it.

That, coupled with their $36 million cap penalty for 2012 and 2013, makes this free agency period more important than normal.

Washington was tied with the Chicago Bears in 2013 for allowing the second most points points per game (29.9), which means the defense, specifically the secondary, will be a high priority in this free agent class.

So who might the Redskins target to improve their roster? Let’s take a look at who the team reportedly has their sights set on based on reports from local Redskins beat writers.

Redskins Inactive List and Game Feed for Pats

The Washington Redskins inactive list for the game against the New England Patriots at Fed Ex is as follows:

WR Terrence Austin
SS LaRon Landry
RB Ryan Torain
LB Markus White
OL Eric Cook
DL Chris Baker
DE Kentwan Balmer

Torain is a surprise only in that it leaves just Evan Royster to back up Roy Helu. Cook is also a bit of a surprise given the state of the offensive line, and that Will Montgomery comes in a little banged up.

Recapping Day 3 of Redskins Free Agency

The Redskins made their biggest move of the day early Thursday morning by shipping disgruntled defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2013 5th round draft pick. This ends a dark chapter because Haynesworth is widely viewed as arguably the biggest free agent bust in franchise history, which should say something. Ironically, Haynesworth heads to another team with a 3-4 defense and a coach regarded as even stricter than Mike Shanahan in Bill Belichick.

A Horse Walks into a Bar…

The Bartender asks; “Why the long face?”

How many of you realize that the Redskins actually won the game yesterday? Show of hands?

No seriously, they did.

Yes…they did. I wouldn’t lie to you, they won.

Yes, I know they only scored nine points, but nine is greater than seven.

Oh sure, they naysayers are saying “same old Redskins; only scored nine points. That won’t be enough to beat our tougher opponents.”
