Week 6 NFL Picks

Once I get about five or six games into a season, I start to gamble with a little bit more fervor. After all, you have a much better sense of all 32 teams’ relative ability by this point.

Remember This Pete?

pete-carroll-choke

It was over 20 years ago, so many football fans may not remember Pete Carroll’s controversial “gesture” way back in 1992. Carroll was the defensive coordinator for the Jets at the time, and they were playing the Miami Dolphins in the second last game of the season. Dolphins kicker Pete Stoyanovich inexplicably missed an extra point with just a couple of minutes left in the game, and Carroll made the infamous choke gesture in response. It was senseless. It was classless.

Recapping Day 3 of Redskins Free Agency

The Redskins made their biggest move of the day early Thursday morning by shipping disgruntled defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2013 5th round draft pick. This ends a dark chapter because Haynesworth is widely viewed as arguably the biggest free agent bust in franchise history, which should say something. Ironically, Haynesworth heads to another team with a 3-4 defense and a coach regarded as even stricter than Mike Shanahan in Bill Belichick.

Fellow Mayo Native Tries to Make His Presence Known in the NFL

On Monday night, the Redskins played host to the New York Giants. Obviously, as a Redskins fan it did not turn out the way I had hoped (it actually turned into a living nightmare) but one small aspect of the matchup that stood out to me was not what happened on the field, but who is involved.

In this case, I took a particular interest in the fact that a man in the NFL is representing my hometown of Mayo, Maryland.

A Horse Walks into a Bar…

The Bartender asks; “Why the long face?”

How many of you realize that the Redskins actually won the game yesterday? Show of hands?

No seriously, they did.

Yes…they did. I wouldn’t lie to you, they won.

Yes, I know they only scored nine points, but nine is greater than seven.

Oh sure, they naysayers are saying “same old Redskins; only scored nine points. That won’t be enough to beat our tougher opponents.”

Samuels, Geisinger Placed On I.R., James Released, and Much More

The Redskins made a flurry of roster moves on Tuesday, the biggest one being the placement of five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels to injured reserve with a torn triceps muscle.

The Redskins also placed reserve offensive lineman Justin Geisinger on injured reserve with a knee injury suffered againt the Baltimore Ravens on Sundy night.

To fill their spots, the Redskins elevated offensive lineman Devin Clark from the practice squad to the active roster and signed former New York Jets and Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Will Montgomery.
