Kirk Cousins Relying on Faith to Guide His Career

The Washington Redskins failed to achieve one of their biggest offseason goals, which was to sign quarterback Kirk Cousins to a long-term contract. Now, they go into the season hoping they can figure out how to keep Cousins on the team for longer than another year. If you want to bet on the Redskins this season, check out the 2017 football odds for Washington Redskins.

After the team was unable to reach a long-term deal with Cousins, the team issued a statement in which they said they offered the quarterback a $53 million deal but they didn’t get a response from Cousins or any of his reps.

By The Numbers: Redskins vs Titans

Here are the important statistics and numbers for Washington’s narrow 19-17 victory over Tennessee on Sunday. It may not have been the prettiest of wins, but it ended the losing streak regardless, and hopefully put the now 2-5 Redskins back on the winning path. The Titans fell to the same mark of 2-5.

351 – Total net yards for the Redskins, to just 236 for the Titans.

160 – Yards passing for Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, on 17 receptions (26 attempts, 91.8 rating).

139 – Yards passing for Kirk Cousins, on 10 completions (16 attempts).

138.9 – QB rating for Colt McCoy. Contrast that with the 64.3 that Cousins put up on basically the same number of yards.

Expect a very potent Redskins offense in 2014

Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins offense, had a very tough 2013 season. RGIII was coming off knee surgery, which really hindered his development. He didn’t have the off-season workouts that most quarterbacks and receivers have. He had to spend all of last off-season rehabbing his surgically repaired right knee.

So what can we expect from Robert Griffin III in 2014? Hopefully a healthy and rejuvenated RGIII that will be vying for the comeback player of the year next season. New Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, who worked with Andy Dalton in Cincinnati, can definitely help RGIII become a much better quarterback.

Redskins Preparing for Free Agency

Entering free agency with an abundance of cap space gives the Redskins lots of options to fill plenty of needs, even after re-signing cornerback DeAngelo Hall, defensive tackle Chris Baker, safety Jose Gumbs and franchising linebacker Brian Orakpo.

The Redskins dropped off dramatically after a division title in 2012. Following a 10-6 season they returned back to the NFC East basement in 2013 with a 3-13 record and no first-round pick to show for it.

That, coupled with their $36 million cap penalty for 2012 and 2013, makes this free agency period more important than normal.

Washington was tied with the Chicago Bears in 2013 for allowing the second most points points per game (29.9), which means the defense, specifically the secondary, will be a high priority in this free agent class.

So who might the Redskins target to improve their roster? Let’s take a look at who the team reportedly has their sights set on based on reports from local Redskins beat writers.
