What is the NFL to do about head injuries? It is a bone of contention that will not go away, and it obviously shouldn’t, not when the health of athletes is on the line. Linebacker DeAndre Levy’s recent suggestion has a lot of people buzzing.
NFL athletes make suggestions all the time, but the one from Levy could have an impact on Redskins betting odds for the season, especially if it is put into practice. If you haven’t heard, Levy participated in a congressional forum constituting members of the House Energy, Commerce, and Judiciary Committees.

The linebacker’s suggestion was that the NFL should eliminate full-contact practices. It matters that an athlete like Levy is bringing this idea to the table because that gives it more weight.

The Washington Redskins ended training camp on Sunday, and have now turned their full attention to getting ready for preseason games as the season opener fast approaches. If you want to bet on Washington this season, check out the Redskins betting lines to win.

After closing camp, head coach Jay Gruden said he felt the team had a very good camp and he is excited to see how it translates on the field. Gruden said they got to evaluate a lot of talent and they will continue doing so until the end of the preseason when they have to make their final cuts.

A few Washington players suffered injuries during camp, which means the team will have to evaluate more players to figure out which ones can fill in for their injured players on a temporary basis. Players like DeAngelo Hall, Sua Cravens, Josh Doctson, and Jamison Crowder are expected to be kept out of preseason games to give them time to recover from their injuries.  Read more... The Washington Redskins made tight end E.J. Bibbs their first training camp signee last Thursday, after an impressive showing during his tryout. With Bibbs, the Redskins now have six tight ends on the 90-man roster. If you want to bet on the Redskins this season, check out the NFL odds for the Washington Redskins.

After he earned the roster spot, Bibbs got to practice with his new teammates. He told reporters that he thought he was just coming in to try out and expected a pretty easy day. However, after making the team, he had to practice after the tryouts as well. Although he admitted he was a little tired, he acknowledged that the rigorous workouts and practice are part of football.

Opportunities to sign with a team after workouts don’t come around very often, unless there is an injury or injuries. In Bibbs’ case, the injuries are to Pro Bowl tight end Jordan Reed, who is currently on the physically unable to perform list, and Vernon Davis, who is nursing a hamstring injury.  Read more... The University of Maryland hosted a sports injury symposium at Knight Hall Wednesday night titled “Sports Injuries: the Risks of Playing the Game from Kids to the Pros.” Among those in attendance were Dr. Stephen Haas, a retired physician for the Wizards, Capitals and Nationals, Sean Sansiveri, NFL Players Association Staff Council; Scott Hallenbeck, Executive Director of USA Football; Katie O’Donnell, 2009 National Field Hockey player of the Year from the University of Maryland; Mark Hyman, author of “Until it Hurts” and adjunct professor at George Washington University; and former Washington Redskins tight end and current ESPN 980 and Comcast SportsNet media personality, Rick “Doc” Walker.

Following the event, I had the chance to speak with Doc about a wide range of topics. In the first of a three-part interview series, Doc talks about his post-career injuries, the Catch-22 that NFL players face with concussions and job security, expanding NFL rosters, his dislike of the Scouting Combine, and whether the 49ers should trade for Darelle Revis.  Read more...
