Ordinarily when someone says he is the greatest people will summarily dismiss the claim as egoism.
What made Muhammad Ali legendary was that when he said, "I am the greatest of all times!", people agreed.
Not only did people agree, people said it for him. And it had nothing to do with the fighter and everything to do with the man.
There aren't many people within my own lifetime I can look to and say, "Everyone should be more like that person." But Muhammad Ali was one of them.
Humanity will miss him.
