With the way the offseason is shaping up, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we didn't draft Trae Waynes (CB -- Mich. State).

It is true, ROTs don't normally get picked at #5, however, the Eagles picked ROT Lane Johnson at #4 in 2013.

If we stay at #5 I assume we'll pick an OLB. If we trade back a ROT would also be in play.

I'd be fine if we traded back to 10-12, picked OL Sherff then picked ROT in 2nd round. That would sure up the right side of the OLine...

I read and listen to all the stuff on the web...hey, I have plenty of time, I'm retired!!! I've heard and read Scot say he likes BPA -- like all of you, however, I don't believe "Best Player Available" is "BPA" -- to everyone... Read this:

http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/09000d5d ... -draft-day

Whether you like Steve Wyche or not, or think this article is old, I believe he's right on -- PBA has a lot of factors...NEED being one of them. In other words, why stockpile one position? The cap doesn't allow that.

Also, BPA available is different for each team -- based on scheme, preferences, how teams gauge past injuries, what players will be available next year, a players personality/interviews, NEED-- etc.

This is not an exact science, who Scot believes is PBA at #5 might be different than another team.

I also believe there are certain positions that have less value at the top of the draft and others more value at the top of the draft -- of course, that's less true as you get later in the draft.

BPA takes a lot into account. How much better is that player than what you have on your team and other prospects, value of that position (specifically in the 1st round), how his interview went, how his old team mates and coaches spoke of him, and a lot more.

Those things will all be weighted differently, tape im assuming the most, then interviews, and so forth.

A lot of teams have the same boards because they use scouting services like what Scot had, and perform minor tweaks. Having scot, its likely our board is a little more unique since its being built in house.

Countertrey -- so, because Gibbs wasn't finding the talent (Bethard was) Gibbs can't or doesn't have an opinion? Hell, he won 3 Super Bowls. I believe he knew a thing or two about football players. More than any of us I'd guess!!

I DO NOT DISAGREE.... Scot will pick the best player available on HIS board. That board is determined by a lot of things. And NEED is one of them....That's all I'm saying.

I also believe need might become less of a factor the further you get into the draft. For example....While Ive heard WR White from WV could be the BPA when we pick - does anyone see us picking him? Not me. However, I could see us picking a WR later in the draft.

^ we get what you ate saying Fred... a lot goes in to determining what the best player available is. However, need is not a factor to our new GM.. if there is a Safety rated lower then a WR (White for example) Scott will take him over the Safety even tho our needs are much less at Wide receiver. Now the entangables that determine who HIS best players available are, is a different story. We arent privy to how he rates players... some put more stock in work ethic and character then others- or just because some ones top speed is higher he might have slower footwork and acceleration. I think we will be surprised by a lot of his picks, hopefully for the better tho

I don't agree that need is not a factor. Said without all the negatives....I believe "need" enters into all personnel decisions.

A lot of posters are taking everything they hear so literally and emphatically.

"We will be a running team" - does that mean we won't ever throw the ball?
"We will play a 3-4 Defense" - does that mean 4 guys won't have their hands in the dirt occasionally?

If we keep Garçon and DJax does anyone believe Scot would take Kevin White at #5, who some is saying a top player in the draft? Does Scot even value WRs that high? Look at Seattle's WRs. Again, BPA is based on a *sh$t* load of stuff!!!

You can have position rankings without them being based on need and I'm sure that's what Scot has. It looks like he values linemen particularly highly from his draft history.
I can't see us taking a receiver at 5 based on those position rankings, but if we traded back 10 spots or so and White was miraculously still there, I'd bet we take him.

Scot is not taking a WR with our first pick in this draft - that's crazy ....
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Heres the deal.. we jave Djax Garçon and Moss/Roberts/Grant...
If White is perceived as the best player on the board when we pick, if his athleticism and skills set him apart from an ok lineman or what not.. even if its close I think Scott takes the best player- White.

Very good read for the WR corps and can pretty much be said of every position on our team at this point.

I'm encouraged and looking forward to this draft - this does seem to be a different way of doing things here ...

it will take a little time but it can be done if the right guys are in charge

For the last 5 or 6 seasons, we have known exactly what the team was going to do.

Having no clue what the team will do with the pick is kind of nice!

I'd like to pick White, a tall, talented wide receiver. But I'd also like to know what Scott is thinking about later round picks with players in need for 2015 season.

Irn Bru --

We can agree to disagree...

I wonder, does BPA take drug use into consideration? NAHHHHH...it's BPA regardless!!!

So, we're ready to pick in the 2nd round and BPA is a CB, and in the 3rd it's a CB, and in the 4th it's a CB...yep, we'd have a team full of 6' 195 lb guys!!! Hopefully, some of them can play TE!!!

Don't be confused, I agree with the concept of BPA...I just don't agree with how a team's BPA board is put together, and what factors go into that determination!

I do not agree with drafting for need and reaching for need -- like Vinnie did with 2 WRs and 1 TE in the 2nd round...that was horrible.

I hope you're saying UNCLE, because I'm not...I don't need to!!

I don't believe BPA is some exact science whereby all teams have the same BPA board -- the draft is absolutely a crap shoot.

What I believe is, a teams BPA board on draft day is made up a lot of factors -- and I truly believe that need is part of that equation...as is drug use, college playing days, interviews at combine, etc...

Best Player available – How need could enter into a team’s drafting…

You’re the Skins…you’ve already picked who you believe are the BPAs at rounds 1 & 2 -- an OLB in round 1 and an OL in round 2. (wow, Interesting to note, both are positions of need, but that's unimportant)

It’s your turn to pick in the 3rd round. The next four BPA’s on your board are -- in order:

1) OLB – rated a 74.5 (on whatever scale you use to rate players)
2) WR – rated a 73.5
3) DL – rated a 73.5
4) FS – rated a 73

WHO do you pick? Who does Scot pick? If you go strictly, without a doubt, by Scot’s words you pick the OLB, right?
We all know our team is short on safeties…especially free safeties. We all know our team may have a need for WR in a year or so.
What has to be determined by the war room – do the extra 1.5 rating, MAKE you pick the OLB? Do you give up the 1.5 points to get a FS – a position that you need? OR will you give up 1 rating point to get the WR versus the OLB?
Does Need enter into this process?
I believe it will and -- I believe it has to.

Randy Gregory might become a really great player but there are other players that just jumped over him on the depth chart

a really, really dumb choice on his part

I don't think we're going to "pass" on anyone that we think might become a very good player but Randy Gregory just lost a huge amount of cash because a number of future greats just became a lot more attractive to future employers

I'd pass on Gregory.

Sounds like he's way more than a recreational user...a guy who woke up smoking it.

What will millions of dollars mean to him? I'm afraid we'd have another Tanard...where we know we have a good player but he teases up!

I'm thinking the #1 guy on Scot's board is a 6 foot 5 inch 300+ pounder named Leonard Williams. I'm thinking both QBs, Dante Fowler, and Amari Cooper will be gone and we will snap up Williams with the 5th pick.

While I'm one of the very few posters who believes need is always apart of a teams picks, especially picks early in the first round, I believe Williams would be a great pick --even though we don't really need him in 2015. We have a stout DL without him, of course he wouldn't hurt! HOWEVER, Williams is so good you can't pass on this guy...unless someone wants to move up to get him and will overpay.

Here is my top 5 mock.

Tampa - Winston
Tenn - Mariota
Jacksonville - Cooper
Oakland - Williams

Jacksonville and Oakland could flip.

So at #5 we have our pick of pass rusher

Washington - Fowler

I like him out of all the pass rushers. Overall skill wise he seems the best, couple of the other guys are better pure pass rushers now, but Fowler is far from his ceiling, he got moved around a ton in college and did good in every spot he played. We could move Trent Murphy to the inside where I think he would play great as a run stopper, good in coverage, and great on blitz packages. Also, to throw teams off, we could flip Fowler with Trent to the inside.

The other way the draft plays out is Fowler goes #3 or 4 and Williams falls to #5. So either we get the best player in the whole draft, or our pick of the best pass rusher. Draft day will be fun :)

The beauty of blogs is I don't have to see all of you (haha) but the downside of blogs is we don't see each other when we communicate!

Of course Williams will help us out, I acknowledged I'd take him if there at #5.

My point is...we are already loaded at Dline. He is a stud and will be a stud for many years -- he will really help us as we move on from Hatcher after this year. A pass rushing OLB helps us more in 2015 but none of these pass rushing OLB are as good as Williams long term.

Again, if he's there, I take him. I worry about playing time once we get to Day 1.

By the way, you'd wreck the Aston!

Mr Williams would be a HUGE addition ...
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Right now I'd call us "loaded" in two positions for 2015...

D Line
WR

Not saying they're set for 2016 and beyond.

If you don't agree, what positions are we better stocked?

From Peter Schrager tweet

Cooper just told me he's only spoken to one team so far...the Washington Redskins.

Its really impossie to tell who we will pick. Scot could have like 5-6 players at the top of his board at #5. All we can do is guess... cooper, white, sherff, fowler, mariota, williams, beasley... just to name a few

By opening day of 2017, we need to add about 7 or 8 starters on defense and possibly 5 or 6 on offense

that is not going to be easy

getting the best player in the draft with the 5 pick is a huge deal for this FO and IMHO would be better than trading out of the 5 slot and getting 2 good players

we do need to add a lot of young starters but this kid will be a force for a long time
